It is said that there are twenty-two thousand or more accepted orchid species in existence. That is a difficult number to imagine even for the most fertile imagination. The numbers vary among the experts whom you speak to about the subject. There are about eight hundred new orchid species added per year.

The Christmas cactus is easy to grow, but it is difficult to get it to bloom. To be certain of a healthy plant there are some things you should know about the plant to help its blooming process. Medium light and a soil high in organic matter such as cow manure, wood ashes, leaf mold, garden loam and clean coarse sand (not beach sand) will make the ideal soil for your cactus.

For those of you who might think of an orchid as a single exotic flower, there is something you should know. Orchids have more than a few thousand species to their credit and what’s more they are adding news ones to the range each year. They come in different sizes and colors. The petals of one might be tiny conjoint and of another orchid species the petals might be like huge open blooms. The dull orchids with wonderful scents are not as popular as the bright and more vividly colored ones. Cultivators something choose orchids depending more on the orchid care that those plants need than the flower’s beauty or scent.

Sandy soils have almost the opposite problems of clay soils. That would stand to reason, as clay soils are made up of very small particles and sandy soils have larger particles. Particle size makes a huge difference in the way water, air and nutrients move through the soil.

Sandstone is basically a sedimentary rock that consists of sand grains and crystalline cement. Other mud particles fill in the space between the grains and form the sandstone. They are generally used as Building Stones as these are available in numerous different colours.

Loamy soil, which is a mixture of sand, silt, and clay, is the best kind of soil for producing a healthy garden. It crumbles easily in your hand, and does not have too much clay, which retains moisture and messes with drainage. It is also not too sandy; therefore it provides adequate support for growing plants, and the needed nutrients.
